Fabric-Safe Upholstery Cleaning You Can Trust

Meals, pets, kids and everyday life all end up on your sofa eventually. Regular vacuuming only lifts what’s on the surface, while oils, dust mites and odour settle deeper into the fabric over time.

Since 2007, Crystal Clean Carpet & Tiles has helped Melbourne households and businesses bring tired, heavily used furniture back to life, using a fabric-safe process built around the specific material of each piece.

    How We Clean Your Upholstery

Every job starts with an assessment, not a generic wash. Here’s what happens on the day.

    01

    Inspect the upholstery

We identify the fabric type, check the manufacturer's cleaning code where available, and inspect for stains, wear, damage, odour and colourfastness concerns.

    02

    Prepare the area

We protect surrounding floors with drop sheets if required, install corner protectors where a hose may contact walls or furniture, and position equipment safely.

    03

    Vacuum, if required

Loose dust, hair, crumbs and debris are removed from all fabric surfaces, crevices and cushions.

    04

    Pre-treatment

Appropriate spotters are applied to stains, chosen for the specific fabric type.

    05

    Apply upholstery pre-spray

A fabric-safe cleaning solution is applied evenly and given sufficient time to dwell.

    06

    Agitate, if suitable

We gently agitate with a soft upholstery brush or cloth to loosen embedded soil where appropriate.

    07

    Hot water extraction

Using a low-moisture upholstery tool connected to a truckmounted or portable system, depending on access, we rinse and extract soil, allergens, odours and cleaning solution.

    08

    Grooming, if required

The fabric pile is groomed where appropriate to improve appearance, remove extraction streaks and support even drying.

What Do Fabric Cleaning Codes Mean?

Most upholstered furniture carries a manufacturer’s cleaning code, usually a letter tag sewn under a cushion or on the frame. W means the fabric can be cleaned with a water-based solution. S means it should only be cleaned with a solvent-based cleaner, no water. WS means either method can be used. X means the fabric should only be vacuumed, with no liquid cleaning at all.

We check for this code as part of our inspection step, because using the wrong method on the wrong fabric can cause shrinkage, watermarking or colour loss.

Will Cleaning Shrink or Damage My Fabric?

When the correct method is matched to the fabric type, cleaning should not cause shrinkage or damage. This is exactly why we inspect the fabric and check for a cleaning code before any product is applied, rather than using the same approach on every piece of furniture.

What Products Do We Use on Upholstery?

We use biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning solutions, so nothing harmful is left behind in fabric your family sits, lies and relaxes on every day. We also use premium-grade cleaning products rather than cheaper alternatives, because upholstery fabric is more delicate than carpet and deserves a gentler, more effective clean.

Why Choose Crystal Clean Carpet & Tiles for Upholstery Cleaning?

    01

Our approach to upholstery cleaning comes from the same philosophy that shaped the whole business. Serage Fikak, our founder,  shifted the company toward gentler, family-focused cleaning in 2009, after his own child was born with severe eczema. That same care now guides how we treat every fabric surface in your home.

    02

Our technicians hold Certificate III in Asset Maintenance (Carpet Cleaning), code PRM30604, through Jena Dyco International, which specifically covers upholstery and fabric cleaning. We carry $20,000,000 in public liability cover through Allianz, and were recognised with the Word of Mouth Service Award every year from 2014 to 2018.

How Much Does Upholstery Cleaning Cost in Melbourne?

Upholstery cleaning costs depend on the fabric type, the size and number of pieces, and how heavily soiled or stained they are. A two-seater sofa is a different job to a full lounge suite or a set of dining chairs, so we assess your furniture directly rather than quoting a flat rate, no obligation, no guesswork.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is upholstery cleaning safe for fabric sofas and lounges?

Yes, when the correct process is used for the fabric type. We check the manufacturer’s cleaning code and inspect for colourfastness before starting, so the method matches the material.

Most upholstery is dry within a few hours, though this depends on fabric thickness, padding density and airflow in the room. Our technician will give you a realistic estimate based on your specific furniture.

Yes. We clean a full range of fabric furniture, from single armchairs and dining chairs through to full lounge suites, using the same careful, code-checked process.

If the rest of the piece is clean and only one area needs attention, our spot and stain removal service can target that specific mark rather than cleaning the whole piece.

Yes, every upholstery clean is covered by our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
